My first solid state amp build has delivered ‘precision’ results, just as your company logo promised.
For some time I had been researching DIY solid state amps, I quickly narrowed down the field once I came across the HPA website, subsequent research told me this was the way to go.
I made contact with Anthony and explained my desire to try one of his products (more out of curiosity to compare my various DIY tube amps with solid state, I needed to know the sonic difference and hey who doesn’t need another amp anyway?)
My speakers are full range Lowther’s and when I contacted Anthony he suggested a dual mono amp using 2 x NXV200L R4 output modules, I.E two separate amps housed in the same case, these put out 55watt per channel so just perfect for the job.
I decided to design and build my own case which turned out well although it was quite an exercise but substantially cheaper than off the shelf models.
Anthony’s parts turn up and look great – a few emails to and fro between Anthony and myself, some of sourcing transformers and heat sinks, some crimping, soldering and hey presto we’re in business.
Now the moment of truth, Van Morrison – Into the Mystic – always a killer on the tubes; well happy days Anthony’s product surpasses my expectations, the sound is precision, it’s in the clarity/crispness but nice and subtle, l have heard the minutest detail, stuff which even my tube amps miss. The sound may not as warm as tubes but then there is always sonic differences between tubes and SS. For now I am a very happy camper.
My experimentation will continue, this is my hobby and passion so there is no end to it!
FYI my system comprises a
Music streaming from a number of sources
PS Audio Perfect Wave Dac (love this piece of kit)
HOLTON dual mono NXV200L
Dayton 1000 watt sub amp
Decware Wicked One sub-woofer (hmmm pure grunt)
A number of Lowther speakers in various enclosures (want good sound? –real value for money)
For now I am a very happy camper. My experimentation will continue, this is my hobby and passion so there is no end to it!
Cheers,
Tim.
Tim from Sydney Australia very happy with the precision sound!
