Mark G's Retro HPA-NXV200 Mono Block Amplifier
Having upgraded my speakers I was looking for something a little better then my monobloc chip-amps, but wanted to keep the chassis as there a good fit with the rest of my system. So using 45V rails and 20,000uf per unit, in went the HPA-nxV200 modules. The first thing that struck me was the improvment in the bass, very quick and tight. The treble was smooth and detailed, and the resolution just outstanding!I'm very happy with the results.RegardsMark G. Martin Balszuweit - HPA-NXV200 Stereo Amplifier
HPA-nxV200 Stereo AmplifierHi Anthony! After building my new power amp, I would like to give you a short description of the unit itself. Due to the fact that these amp modules are so incredibly small, I decided to go for a rather small amp. So I was able to go for a smaller transformer, less smoothing capacitance, smaller heatsinks and, of course, a smaller enclosure. I used a fully encapsulated 250VA toroid transfomer with 2x24V secondaries, a 15A/200V bridge rectifier, 4x 10.000uF/50V Panasonic TS-HA caps and two heatsinks with 1,7k/W each. The enclosure is a very rigid steel case of Monacor International.I decided to build the amp without any input coupling caps at all, because I like to do some "cap rolling", and this way it will be possible to change the caps whenever I want to. At the moment the best I have to hands are some Black Gate N...
Dan Dearlow's HPA-NXV200 Four Channel Amplifier
Preliminary listening impressions - no background hum or buzz, very quiet. Amps sound extremely nice! Nice clarity and soundstage, bass is quick and tight....I will admit that I have never fully believed or perhaps comprehended the "burn in" period discussed in camps at several levels but….. my goodness. I would say after about 6 to 8 hrs of play time, the sound really came into its own. The bass improved significantly, sound stage is staggering, highs are sweet and the mids are right where I want them. Listening to this amp play was pure pleasure. I am really looking forward more "seat time" with this unit along with more "burn in". You really are able to pick out subtleties on a CD that you have not heard before - even with my modest system. I am truly looking forward to showing off your handiwork to my friends who now may...
